Developers and agencies in Antigua and Barbuda build a growing range of software: booking platforms for villas and excursions, e-commerce sites for local retailers, client portals for banks and law firms, apps for events such as Sailing Week and Carnival. Sooner or later, each needs to send email. Mailpro’s email API lets your code send messages, manage contacts and read results without building mail infrastructure yourself.
What you can do with the API
- Send transactional email: booking confirmations, receipts, password resets, document notifications.
- Trigger marketing messages: add a guest to a list after checkout, or start an automation when a customer registers.
- Manage contacts: create, update and unsubscribe contacts from your own systems, keeping your database and Mailpro in sync.
- Track results: check the delivery status of transactional emails and receive events through webhooks.
Examples from the islands
An excursion booking site
When a visitor books a catamaran trip to Barbuda, the site calls the API to send a confirmation with the meeting point, and adds the guest to a “day-trip” list if they ticked the newsletter box. A webhook notifies the site if the email bounces, so staff can call the guest instead.
A retailer’s online shop
Order confirmations, delivery updates within Antigua, and a review request a week later, all triggered by events in the shop system.
A financial services portal
Secure login codes and “new document available” notices, sent from a platform whose hosting and security the firm can document for its regulator and clients.
Security and jurisdiction
Antigua and Barbuda’s Data Protection Act, 2013 requires you to protect personal data, considering where it is stored and how it is transferred, and to make sure processors give adequate security guarantees (section 8). Mailpro processes API traffic on private infrastructure in Switzerland, outside US jurisdiction, with TLS 1.3 encryption, and never sells or rents data. Switzerland has an EU adequacy decision, which also helps when your users are in the EU. Read more on why Switzerland.
Consent still applies
An API makes it easy to send, but not every send is appropriate. Keep transactional messages, which relate to a booking or purchase, separate from promotional ones, which need the recipient’s consent under the Data Protection Act. Store the consent flag in your contact records and pass it to Mailpro.
Transactional or marketing: design for both
Most integrations end up sending both kinds of message. A good pattern is to send receipts, confirmations and account notices through the API as transactional email, and to use the API only to add or update contacts for your marketing lists, leaving newsletters to be designed and sent from Mailpro’s campaign tools. That keeps promotional content out of service messages, makes consent easy to respect, and lets non-developers on your team run the marketing side without touching code.
A note for agencies
Web and software agencies in Antigua and Barbuda often build for several clients at once: a resort, a retailer, a professional firm. Keep a separate Mailpro account or API key per client so that sending reputation, statistics and data stay separate, and document for each client where their data is hosted. Clients subject to foreign rules, such as a firm with EU customers, will ask.
Getting started
Create an account, generate an API key, and follow the developer documentation. New accounts include 500 free credits for testing. Then compare approaches in API versus SMTP and see what you can measure in email API statistics.
